well 48 hours to go

well I'm about as ready as I'll ever be. I've done a full14k run last week and since i've been on my wind-down to let my body relax and build up my energy, only going to the gym and not running for more than about 20 mins at a time.

Although I did go for a short 5 mile run yesterday, and the strangst thing happened, I got the worst stitch I have ever had!! It came so sudfdently and stopped me from doing anything, I had to stop and wait for it to pass. Although I've discovered the reason for it. I weas running too fast!

I managed to cut my 5 mile time from 42 mins to 36 even with the break for my stitch included, so I it seems that I need to make sure I pace myself properly. I do see this as a good thing thugh, as if it happens to me on Sunday I'll know exactly what has caused it, and what to do.

I'm starting to get nervous forthe race day now, it's coming up so quickly and there's nothing I can do about it. But ot be honest I'll be so glad when it's over, as I'll be able to get on with my studies. Thgen come the end of may that's it - i'm free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well better go, off for my last run this morning, got two lectures at uni, and a birthday party to go to, but a nice quiet one at a restaurant. Getting an early night cuz I'm travelling to London tomorrow daytime to pick up my race number and book myself into my hotel.

Well - wish me luck!

a week and one day to go

well i've got a week and a day to go before the big day.

I've done the last of my big runs, and now am on a wind-down.

I did a nice big run on Wednesday, 22km, and I did it in 1 hour and 50 mins. I was very impressed with myself too. I ran down the canal but this time I went down a different one towards Northfield. and then back again.

Problems have now changed though, and I need to get some new shorts for the run, as I've been having some issues with my legs, although most of the other problems have been sorted. Bodywise that is.

Biggest issues now are starting to be around what I am going to do on the day and the time leading up to the day - what I am supposed to be eating, and where I need to be going. I have cut coffee out of my diet completely and am now eating a shedload of fruit every day.

I'm a little bit concerned about the race day, I have been told many times I should be drinking energy dirnks during the race, but I have read many times that I shouldn't start anything new on the day and I should stick to what I know. I don't know how my body would cope with energy drinks, so I think I'm going to stick to sweets! Well that should be ok, and it'll give me the extra bit of energy I need to complete the final distance. - that's lucozade sweets btw.

There's also issues about who I'm going with, I think I may actually end up going down by myself, but I don't think this is such a bad thing. It does mean I don't have to worry about not sleeping or having someone else to think of, but I don't kow if i'll be lonely??

Other than that I've been studying a load, I have three pieces of coursework due in next week, and my exams are looming, so it's head down time. I'll be glad when all of this is over, despite enjoying it all - running has been a big distraction from mmy studies, it will all be worht it though when I cross that finish line!!!

I'm on holiday!

Ok, so what's been happening this time??

Well on Friday I went to the gym and did the longest run of my life. I think I ran about 13.5 miles, so that's about a half-marathon, so I'm getting there at least.

The first hour was non-stop, then I had a few minutes of walking uphill on the treadmill and then I carried on with the run. My nipples were hurting again after a while, so I do need to think seriously about that. If I use plasters it should be fine, but I'll need to shave my chest before sticking anything, or it'll just come off :-s

Well what elsle has happened, well I had a quiet weekend till Sunday morning, when I woke early to buy my ticket for Glastonbury, I was on the ciomputer at 9am to tyr and get through, I spent ages on the phone and with two computers, and finally I managed to get a ticket through a friend, but then I still needed to continue for my brother and Ant. I go tthrough on the website at about 1130, and then had problems, the only tickets left were coach tickets, and then there weren't any from Birmingham left so thwey had to get tickets from Gloucester. Anyway, after this was sorted we had abit of a celebration, and started drinking, needless to say I got a little drunken and passed out in the early evening I think. Hmm need to cut back on that one for a while.

So went to work on Monday, and then on Tuesday I caught the train to Exeter and then a coach to Bude and now I'm sat in my Nan's house in Bude. It's lovely here, the weathers fantastic and the break is doing me the world of good.

I went for a run yesterday, and I had a little adventure!

I went onto the beach, then up onto the cliffs, and everything was going smoothly, until I cane to a massive complex with a load of sattelite dishes. They were huge, it was atcually quite scary, and then I got lost. I headed away from the complex, only to be chased by some bulls in a field. I then changed course, and the bulls started following me, I got more lost. I finally managed to find my way back onto the path, andcontinued on my way. I found the way inland away from the cliffs with the intention of beginning my journey back, only to discover I was in Stanbury. I asked a local farmer who told me to go down some road - so I followed it and followed it and followed it for miles.
Four hours after I left I finally arrived back at my Nan's. Feet were a bit sore, and legs aching but otherwise unharmed.

My neck was hurting slightly though, and it wasn't until the late evening that it suddenly twigged, I ran to the mirror and noticed quite bad sunburn across my neck and shoulders. Typical eh? Well at least I know I'll be able to get a tan while I'm here.

Right well gotta be off, got loads to do, and need to keep studying. Should be doing plenty of running while I'm here too though.

Take it easy... I know I will be!

Hmm, update

Right, well yesterday, lets begin:

I went to the gym, after a little drag 'em around town, and all was set, I felt fantastic, my legs were fine, and I was full of energy. I did feel like i was all set to do the longest I've ran...ever!!

So, after a quick gym workout, I hit the treadmill, go at a nice steady pace, and it seems like can keep it going for ages, then........my right nipple starts hurting, this has happened before, so I try and ignore it and keep running, I get to 30 mins, and it gets worse, I think it's all going to be ok, so I keep going, then at about 40 mins, I look in the mirror and notice a red spot on my tshirt.

Dammit, I run to the changing room and I've got the bloodiest nipple in the world, I patch it up and go back out, but after a few mins, the plaster falls off and it starts bleeding again, so I decide to up the pace knowing full well I won't be able to continue for much longer. I manage to complete about 8 miles in 55 mins, so a good time, just wish I could have carried on for longer.

So, lesson learned, plasters/vaseline always when running now.

Today, I had work so I went for a run this morning, did 5 miles which was all I had time for, then I went to work. I feel quite rested now though, and I'm intending to have an early night ready for a long one tomorrow. If the weather's nice, I want to head down the canal, in the sunshine and take it all in. If not, I'll be at the gym slogging on the treadmill. Oh well.

More updates as they come, oh and I'm about to post a picture - in case you cared????

It's a well nice day today, gotta go into Uni now, then I'm off to the gym. Hope to clock up some more miles for the week.

So this is it - 26 days to go - is it a little late to start this??

Hi all.

Well I am running the Flora London Marathon, and I started to keep everything updated on my fundraising page, but that got a little long - it's only one screen, so I thought I could keep everyone in touch by creating a blog which I could keep updated - this is the idea, so I hope I manage to stick to it.

I was born with Asthma, and during my childhood I was in and out of hospital. With a lot of help and support from Asthma I was able to gain control of my asthma and move on to lead a normal life. It was because of this support that I decided to help them out by running the London Marathon in aid of Asthma.

I've been running quite a bit as you can imagine, going down the canals of Birmingham, as well as hitting the treadmills at my gym all in the hope that I can prepare my body to run the gruelling 26.2 miles.

It's been tough to keep myself motivated, but I'm getting there.

Last week -

I did 2 short runs of about 5 miles each, 2 long runs about 11 miles each and I walked to Erdington from the city centre (don't ask) which I think is about 5 miles.

This week, well I didn't do any formal exercise yesterday as I was at work all day, but I today I walked for about an hour and a half and this evening I went for a run down the canal, clocking up about 9 miles.

More planned for tomorrow!
